Zack Snyder Hopes To Reshoot The Ending Of One Of His Most Controversial Movies With Main Cast

Director Zack Snyder wants to return to his controversial 2011 film Sucker Punch and reshoot the ending with the original cast. Sucker Punch, which Snyder himself once described as “Alice in Wonderland with machine guns,” was Snyder’s fourth directorial effort and his first film based on an entirely new concept. Sucker Punch was widely panned by critics, with heavy criticism directed at women, but an earlier R-rated extended cut that included over 18 minutes of additional footage later garnered widespread reaction when it was released on home video. In a recent interview with Total Film (via Inverse), Snyder revealed that he is currently in negotiations with Warner Bros. to return to Sucker Punch and reshoot some of the final scenes with original cast members Emily Browning and Abbie Cornish. While Sucker Punch has its own expanded version, the director also revealed that he’s still not satisfied with the final product, calling it “not a fully realised film.”

Zack Snyder’s Movies Always Work Better As Extended Cuts

Snyder is considered one of the most polarizing figures in modern Hollywood, and his films often receive mixed reviews from professional critics and general audiences. Many of his films divided opinion among audiences when they were first released, but his subsequent additions and changes to his films have mainly led to significant improvements in the final product. Many of his films divided opinion among audiences when they were first released, but his subsequent additions and changes to his films have mainly led to significant improvements in the final product. The director is best known for releasing the four-hour film Zack Snyder’s Justice League in 2021, but has previously returned to several of his own projects, giving audiences alternate cuts that are closer to his original vision for the films. In addition to focusing on rebooting his own DC films over the years, Snyder has branched out into other projects, including the critically acclaimed 2004 remake of Dawn of the Dead and 2009’s Watchmen. Additionally, Snyder is already planning an alternate cut of his latest Netflix project, “Rebel Moon,” the first parts of which are set to hit the streaming platform later this month.

Watchmen is available in both a Director’s Cut and an Ultimate Cut, the latter of which includes the animated story “Tale of the Black Freighter.” However, Snyder cites the Director’s Cut as his preferred version. Original theatrical releases are often limited by shorter running times and a desire to hit certain audience ratings to maximize potential box office revenue, so in many cases the film may suffer the consequences of initial editing decisions made with these end goals in mind. But perhaps more than many of his contemporaries, Snyder seems increasingly able to work without such limitations. Perhaps even the planning for one of his most controversial films, Sucker Punch, will help him rehabilitate his final work in the eyes of many of his past critics.
