Where To Watch ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’

In Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, our beloved band of Walkers looks a little different these days. Peter Quill, still reeling from the loss of Gamora, must rally the team together to protect the universe while protecting their own allies, a mission that, if not completed, could very well lead to the demise of the Guardians as we know them. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was released in theaters on May 5, 2023, and grossed $118.4 million in North America, bringing its box office total to more than $348.5 million since its initial release. Since its release, it has grossed more than $825.3 million worldwide. The film was highly anticipated by Marvel fans, and was recertified on the aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes with a critic score of 82% and an audience score of 94%.

The New Galactic Threats

In this film, the group faces a whole new threat. The members of the group are at greater risk than ever before. Peter Quill and a band of misfits have settled in Nowhere, where they are still recovering from the pain and loss of Gamora, when Adam Warlock crashes. It has long been hinted that Adam Warlock will appear in the MCU, since the first Thor: The Dark World and Guardians of the Galaxy. However, her appearance was only confirmed in the post-credits scene of Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol 2. Adam Warlock, played by Will Poulter, has a different origin in the MCU than in the comics. Adam Warlock in the film is not a scientist, but a sovereign warrior created by High Priestess Aisha and the High Evolutionary. The film also introduces the High Evolutionary (played by Chukwudi Iwuji) to the MCU. A geneticist with a personal mission to create the perfect species, he abducted various creatures for his experiments. Rocket Raccoon (then known as 89P13) was one of his subjects. When Rocket points out the flaws in the High Evolutionary’s project, he becomes confused and enraged, ordering Rocket’s brain to be removed for examination. Rocket manages to escape, and years later, the High Evolution learns of their involvement with the Guardians of the Galaxy and orders Adam Warlock to track them down at all costs.

Rocket’s Story

Guardians of the Galaxy promises a massive space adventure with plenty of hilarious banter between the Guardians. However, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has a darker, more emotional tone. Director James Gunn is co-chairman of DC Studios and this could be his last Marvel directorial effort. The film not only recaps the adventures of the current Guardians team, but also delves into Rocket’s origin story. Rocket Raccoon, formerly known as 89P13, is undergoing testing and experiments by the High Evolution Corporation. In flashbacks, we meet Rocket’s cage mates Floor, Tief, and Lyla. The four friends find solace in each other and often play games and dream of an “eternal and beautiful heaven.” Messages of animal cruelty are present throughout the film, and what the High Evolutionaries do to Rocket and his friends will shock you and give us a glimpse into Rocket’s stubborn personality. Although the Guardians tend to argue with each other, the group is pretty tight-knit. When Rocket’s life is in danger, his friends will stop at nothing to save him, even if it means sacrificing themselves. Rocket is definitely central to this story, so we recommend having tissues handy while you watch.
