Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse – Release Date & Everything We Know

After the critical and commercial success of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, all eyes are now on the third film in the series, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. The sequel continues Miles Morales’s eerie adventures as he tries to stop Spot from destroying the multiverse. The Spider-Man Universe series moves away from the familiar version of Peter Parker’s original story and begins a new cinematic adventure for Spider-Man, starting with the 2018 Oscar-winning animated film Spider-Man: New Universe, which focused on Miles Morales. A young Spider-Man teams up with various Spider-Men from other worlds to defeat Kingpin while embracing his new powers. Spider-Man: New Universe’s universal coming-of-age theme, coupled with a talented voice cast and a great hip-hop soundtrack, earned it almost unanimous positive reviews, and Across the Spider-Verse follows suit. While multi-universe crossovers and character variations are no longer uncommon in superhero media, the Spider-Verse series has carved out a unique place for itself in the market thanks to its vast array of Spider-Man cameos and beautiful art style. While this may not be the end for Miles, Gwen and the rest, Beyond the Spider-Verse will mark the end of Sony’s animated trilogy.

Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse Latest News

Spider-Man

Sony Pictures has removed Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse from its release schedule, moving up its release date to March 29, 2024. This means Beyond the Spider-Verse does not currently have a set release date, but the studio is considering a new date depending on how long the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes last. Sony is targeting a November 2024 release date, but it remains to be seen if Beyond the Spider-Verse will take that spot. With the cast and writers strikes continuing, Sony may not set a release date for Beyond the Spider-Verse until one or both issues are resolved.

Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse Confirmed

As for the behind-the-scenes talent of Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, Kemp Powers (co-director of Soul), Justin K. Thompson (production designer of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse) and Joaquín dos Santos (director of several episodes of Justice League: Unlimited) will return as directors for the sequel. As for the screenplay, the trio will continue to rely on Spider-Verse series producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, who will co-write the script with Shang-Chi and Legend of the Ten Rings screenwriter David Callahan. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse share the same writing and directing teams, were shot simultaneously and are closely related. In 2021, Lord and Miller said they had too many ideas to fit into one film, and instead decided to split the story into two sequels. The duo will be joined again by Spider-Man series producers Avi Arad, Amy Pascal and Christina Steinberg. When the decision was made to produce Part 3, it was originally titled Across the Spider-Verse Part 2, but was later renamed Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, but the story is still a consistent tale.

Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse Release Date

Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse does not yet have a release date. When Beyond the Spider-Verse was announced alongside Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse in 2021, Beyond the Spider-Verse was set for a release date of March 29, 2024. However, in July 2023, Sony announced that Beyond the Spider-Verse had been removed from the studio’s release schedule. At this point, the studio was considering several possible new release dates, depending on how long the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes lasted.

Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse Cast

As Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse still focuses on Miles Morales, Shameik Moore is expected to return as a voice actor, and after the dramatic ending of Across the Spider-Verse, it’s likely the rest of the Spider-Verse’s core cast will return. Hailee Steinfeld’s Spider-Man and Jake Johnson’s Peter B. Parker will play key roles in the remaining trilogy, as will the rest of the new Spider-Man team, including Spider-Man Noir (Nicolas Cage), Penny Parker (Kimiko Glenn), Spider-Ham (John Mulaney), Spider-Punk (Daniel Kaluuya), Pavitr Prabhakar (Karan Soni), and Spider-Bite (Amandla Stenberg). The same goes for Miles’ current opponents Spot (Jason Schwartzman), Spider-Woman (Issa Rae), Spider-Man 2099 (Oscar Isaac), and the Aaron Davis variant (Mahershala Ali). Given the strong family-centric themes that dominate Miles’ teen hero arc, it’s a safe bet that both Brian Tyree Henry and Luna Lauren Velez will be heard from again as the hero’s parents in Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.
