Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has announced which MCU heroes may take on the role of leader in the upcoming film Thunderbolts. Made up of characters who never thought of themselves as heroes like the Avengers, the Thunderbolts are a completely unique and dark team that will likely assemble in the MCU soon. So it seems Marvel Studios has yet to find the right candidate to lead them.

Taking on this leadership position seems to put Bucky in entirely new territory after playing Sam Wilson’s Captain America in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, but he will likely be outdone by Yelena Belova’s White Widow (Florence Pugh) and Red Guardian (David Harbour). They are also supported by U.S. Agent (Wyatt Russell), Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen) and Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko).

With that in mind, it would be Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ Val who would be the only one to officially unite the Thunderbolts. After all, previous MCU chapters have revealed that Yelena is already working for them, as is John Walker’s U.S. Agent. It would make sense for Val to take on the role of Nick Fury to the crew, with Bucky deployed in the field as the crew’s leader. Similarly, he would have no say in the matter.

Part of me will always deride Ant-Man for the behind-the-scenes turmoil that ousted original director Edgar Wright. Set in an alternate universe (or multiverse), the acclaimed director of Hot Fuzz and Baby Driver directed Ant-Man, creating the greatest Marvel movie of all time and paving the way for great screenwriters to give our beloved superheroes the roles they deserve with their creative vision.

Unfortunately, Wright left the project for some reason, while Peyton Reed did his best to imitate the previous director’s style. So, Ant-Man has a touch of creativity, but it never fully utilizes its potential. Paul Rudd stars, with Michael Douglas and Evangeline Lilly providing strong support as Hank and Hope Pym. Less convincing is Corey Stoll, whose villain Darren Cross/Yellowjacket is more of a nuisance than a threat. Ant-Man is plenty entertaining, but it’s hard not to be disappointed by what could have been if the original vision had been realized.
