Forgotten Marvel Series Worth Watching Even Now!

Marvel’s Forgotten TV Show Is Still Worth Watching 5 Years After It Premiered

Five years after it premiered, Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger is still worth watching, despite being one of the most neglected series in the MCU. With more impressive connections to the MCU than most Marvel series, 2018’s Cloak & Dagger also made good use of its unique New Orleans setting while establishing a strong dynamic between Tyrone Johnson’s Cloak (Aubrey Joseph) and Tandy Bowen’s Dagger (Olivia Holt). As shown, Tyrone and Tandy accidentally received the power of light and dark energy as children after the explosion of the Roxon Bay oil rig in New Orleans. Eight years later, they come together again to activate the aforementioned powers and simultaneously bind their destinies as a “divine couple.” However, the two parts of “Mavel’s Cloak & Dagger” tell the story of more than just two teenagers who wish to know where their powers come from while fighting corrupt corporations. It’s also a TV series with close ties to the MCU, and is definitely worth a watch for anyone who loves the genre and missed it in 2018 (as it certainly caught my eye).

Cloak And Dagger Has Better MCU Ties Than Most Marvel TV Shows

Marvel’s Forgotten

Originally airing on ABC’s Freeform, Cloak & Dagger is impressive for the number of connections to the larger MCU it features; however, none of them dominate the show or require a vast knowledge of the MCU as a whole to understand (and that’s exactly how it should be). From the start, the series’ main antagonist has been the corrupt and greedy megacorporation Roxxon, who was ultimately put at the forefront of MCU projects rather than the Foundation, which is used as an Easter egg in the series. Roxxon, for example, is a member of the Council that appears in Marvel’s Agent Carter series, an illegal corporation that manipulates the world’s economy for its own ends.

Cloak And Dagger Balanced Real-World Problems And Culture With Superheroics

While some MCU films have dealt well with real-world issues and culture, this is less common in Marvel TV series. New Orleans is an incredibly rich setting, which the series has taken advantage of very well, especially considering the family dynamics and Tyrone’s story arc. For example, the classic cape that he associated with New Orleans culture in the comics was created by his brother Tyrone for Mardi Gras, but was never completed after being accidentally shot by a careless police officer. Years later, Tyrone completed the cape in honor of his brother, and used it as a means to control the power of the Dark Force. Similarly, Tannie experiences her own dynamic and very grounded growing up in the face of her estranged mother.

Will Cloak And Dagger Return To The MCU?

Forgotten Marvel Series Worth Watching Even Now!

Anything is possible, but five years later, Cloak & Dagger doesn’t seem to have much of a future. A combo episode aired in Marvel’s Runaways season 3 on Hulu in 2019, but with Marvel Studios currently developing a new show for Disney+ and Marvel Television already developing a new show for Disney+, future appearances are unlikely. Disbanded (also in 2019). After all, the MCU ignores almost all of the non-Guardians TV shows, and while it doesn’t actively strip them of their official status, it doesn’t seem to use them in the future of the MCU either. Either way, Cloak & Dagger is still worth a watch, as it provides an overall great drama with strong MCU references.
