Marvel Bought A $6k Bottle Of Bourbon And Is Reusing It In Multiple Shows

A sneak peek at Episode 4 of Secret Invasion. The Marvel Cinematic Universe was introduced to a very expensive bottle of bourbon that was featured in Episode 4 of another MCU Disney+ show, Secret Invasion. Nick Fury’s battle with Gravik and his minions continues in the episode titled “Beloved.” This rollercoaster ride of an unfolding story has some major twists that will have a major impact on the story going forward. These include Gear’s return after being shot by Gravik in the episode, confirmation that Rhodey was indeed a Skrull, and the heartbreaking death of Talos. But in one of the quieter moments in Episode 4 of Secret Invasion, Fury comes face to face with Rhodey for the first time since their last tense encounter. This follows an emotional reunion between the former S.H.I.E.L.D. director and his wife, Priscilla. The Skrull Rhodey is surprised to see Fury sitting in his hotel room, logged in. While they argue, Fury tries to defuse the situation by offering the Skrull Rhodey a glass of Pappy Van Winkle bourbon. “Twenty-three years of distilling perfection! I thought I could settle an argument like a decent gentleman,” he jokes. Not surprisingly, interest in bourbon quickly grew.

Nick Fury’s Favorite Bourbon In Secret Invasion Sells For Over $5000

The bottle, found in the family’s stash of Pappy Van Winkle, played a key role in Fury and Rhodey’s final conversation. After taking a sip, Fury exclaimed, “Pappy!” When Rhodey expressed skepticism, the one-eyed spy convinced him by saying, “It’s 24-karat liquid gold, worth $5,000.” Marvel Studios kept the Secret Invasion storyline in place, even though it was about a shape-shifting alien trying to conquer Earth. It’s no surprise, then, that Fury’s Pappy Van Winkle is actually real, and available for purchase to anyone who can afford it and find him. Pappy Van Winkle’s regular retail price is actually just $299, and it is the flagship product of the Kentucky-based Old Rip Van Winkle distillery. However, it is so rare that it is rarely sold at this price. Fury wasn’t lying when he said a bottle of wine cost $5,000 in Secret Invasion. In some cases, the price of a bottle can be even higher. In addition to the limited quantity, Pappy Van Winkle takes 23 years to age, making it very difficult to purchase. No wonder even Skrull Rhodey wanted the bottle for himself when he got rid of Fury.

Pappy Van Winkle Also Appears In She-Hulk: Attorney At Law

Despite the high price, Marvel Studios seems to be making the most of Pappy Van Winkle Family Reserve 23. Before Secret Invasion, it had already appeared as a plot element in episode 2 of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, although in a less tense setting than Fury and Rhodey’s session. In the bar scene with Holden Holliway and Jen Walters, the bartender first stares at him before pouring her a drink, effectively letting fans know what to expect from the older gentleman. However, it is unlikely that any bar would have a bottle of this rare bourbon in stock. After all, it makes it more believable that Fury could have access to it.
