Blue Beetle’s Shocking Twist Sets Up A Perfect DCU Casting
The twist at the end of Blue Beetle’s makes it a perfect setup for the new DCU. If the franchise moves forward, the legacy of the Blue Beetle mantle will expand. Jaime Reyes (Xolo Maridueña) is now confirmed as the third Blue Beetle in the series, following the original comics.
This opens the door for an exciting casting choice. The film’s biggest surprise makes it logical to introduce one of the most beloved past Beetles. Directed by Ángel Manuel Soto, Blue Beetle is one of Warner Bros.’ final DC films before the reboot under DC Studios presidents James Gunn and Peter Safran.
Gunn has confirmed that Jaime Reyes will be the first hero in the DCU. However, Superman: Legacy, set for a 2025 release, will be the first official DCU film. Regardless, Blue Beetle’s post-credits scene sets up an exciting future for the franchise and lays the groundwork for an ideal casting.
Blue Beetle’s Ending Sets Up Ted Kord For Blue Beetle 2

At the end of Blue Beetle’s , Jaime Reyes allies with the alien scarab, Kaji Da. After defeating Carapax and Victoria Kord, a post-credits scene reveals that Ted Kord, the previous Blue Beetle, is still alive.
Ted vanished years ago when Victoria took over the company. Even his daughter, Jenny (Bruna Marquezine), had no idea where he was. In Ted’s secret base, a corrupted video recording confirms his survival and includes a message for Jenny. This sets up the possibility of Ted appearing in Blue Beetle 2 and other DCU projects.
Unlike Dan Garrett and Jaime Reyes, who gained powers from the Scarab, Ted relied on his wealth to develop crime-fighting gadgets and vehicles. His disappearance left many questions. Now that Jaime has embraced his role, Ted could return as his mentor. His advanced technology and strategic mind would make him a thrilling addition to the DCU.
The DCU Can Deliver On Jason Sudeikis’ Perfect Ted Kord Casting

Rumors about Ted Kord surfaced before Blue Beetle’s hit theaters. His absence in the first film gives DC Studios a chance to cast fan-favorite Jason Sudeikis as the previous Blue Beetle.
Following the success of Ted Lasso, the SNL alum would be a perfect fit for Ted Kord. The meta-humor of Sudeikis playing another character named Ted adds to the appeal.
The first film hinted at Ted’s absent-minded and humorous personality, making him a great role for Sudeikis. A family portrait in the movie even teases a version of Ted that Sudeikis could portray. If Blue Beetle performs well at the box office, sequels and DCU appearances may follow. This could finally introduce Ted Kord—hopefully played by Sudeikis himself.
