A Quiet Place: Day One trailer: Lupita Nyong’o stars

Director John Krasinski’s first A Quiet Place film transports viewers into an eerie and subdued world. There, the few survivors of an alien attack find a way to adapt to a new quiet life, more than a year after their words became a death sentence. A Quiet Place: Day One shows why there were so few survivors in the first place. It turns out the world is really, really noisy. You know who it is! Ryan Gosling was as surprised as anyone by Hillary Clinton’s comments on ‘Barbie’ Oscar controversy Day One temporarily moves away from the Abbott family and their audio feedback defenses and expands on the world of A Quiet Place with an entirely new cast of characters and a spooky new plot: “Discover Why Our World Became Quiet” Emily Blunt is set to return in ‘A Quiet Place: Part III,’ directed by Krasinski and ‘Day One’ director Michael Sarnoski, with no release date set.

In “A Quiet Place,” the small speaker on a tiny space shuttle toy was sure to spell death, but the trailer for “Day One” bombards you with a flood of noise right from the start. Lupita Nyong’o’s character lives in New York City, probably the worst place for an alien invasion of this kind, and she takes what is probably the best-behaved cat in the world into her arms. I’m holding you. (It’s clear why they chose a cat as a companion here – a dog would have killed them almost instantly – but we’re still pretty worried about the cat’s chances of surviving to the end of the movie.) She is standing on a crowded street. The spider monster lands first, and the rest is pretty much what you’d expect. Goodbye, Brooklyn Bridge!

There’s nothing really new going on here, but that conceit gives Sarnoski a really interesting opportunity to play with tone in ways he couldn’t in his earlier films. This clip is loud. Car horns beep, alarms blare, people scream, army jets drone overhead—you get the picture. In a world where silence is key, a little peace and quiet is exceptionally hard to earn.
