Film Threat Reviews ‘The Taste of Things’: A Feature Presentation

“The Taste of Things” focuses on French cuisine in 1885 as a powerful metaphor for life and love. The story revolves around the kitchen of the famous and celebrated gourmet Dodin Bouffan (Benoît Magimel) and his beloved chef Eugénie (Juliette Binoche). Eugénie has been cooking for Dodin for 20 years, and harmony in the kitchen is maintained by the passion and discipline needed to achieve top-notch results. A deep understanding of the requirements of culinary excellence awakens deep emotions between the two. They are also lovers, combining sexual hedonism with gastronomic adventure.

After decades of building unparalleled fine dining experiences, they have developed a rare relationship built on culinary success and mutual respect and admiration. Dodin and Eugénie have a dedicated gourmet fanbase; a small group of well-heeled gentlemen frequently come for dinner and support Dodin’s endeavors. They also stay up to date on new culinary trends and rising stars of the local culinary world. Dodin employs young women as apprentice chefs, working alongside Eugénie to learn their trade and become the next generation of exceptional chefs.

The first season of Disney+’s What If… offered a rather rare amount of all-around happiness from Marvel Studios. For MCU fans who love seeing familiar characters and stories reimagined as something new, it was nothing more than fun moments and Easter eggs. So it makes sense that the second season of the series will premiere around the holidays on December 22nd, with new episodes airing through December 30th. As a nice little gift to the Marvel Zombies out there, it includes a Die Hard-inspired Christmas episode in which Jon Favreau’s Happy Hogan transforms into the Hulk – yes, they call him Hulk Hogan. Nevertheless, the real Marvel Zombies from season 1 only make a brief appearance this time around. Leah Sava Jeffries, Aryan Singhadri, Walker Scovel

Dodin seems to have it all. He’s a hugely successful foodie and restaurateur, a wealthy and respected celebrity, and it’s hard to imagine him wanting anything more. He lives well, but his heart longs to marry Eugénie. He’s asked him many times, but she has refused, knowing that changing roles from respected chef to gourmet guru to “wife” would be a demotion. Eugénie is his equal in the kitchen, and has freedom and some discretion when it comes to mastering the kitchen, but she fears she will lose that if she marries him. Despite her reluctance to get married, her love for him has not diminished in the slightest and over the years the two have maintained a perfect balance amidst all the ups and downs of worldly life. One day, when she is not doing well, he realizes what it takes to convince her that marriage will not change the dynamic between them, so he decides to turn the tables on them and marry her. He starts cooking for her. Life catches up with these happy lovers just like anyone else, but they lead charmed lives and enjoy the rewards of hard work.
